Tom Maynard and Chris Schofield helped their Surrey side inflict yet another Finals loss for Somerset.

The two Team GM batsmen both contributed with late runs as the south-west London County won the Clydesdale Bank 40 Final at Lords on Saturday.

It was a bitter pill to swallow for Somerset. On this stage last year they also loss, twice in the Twenty20 finals and once in the Championship last year they had been unable to get over the line. And so it happened again for them.

In stark contrast, Surrey had only recently secured promotion to the top-flight in the four-day competition and now they had doubled their reasons to smile.

Maynard was born in Cardiff, the son of former Glamorgan captain Matthew, and after leaving his local County at the end of last summer, he hasn’t had to wait very long to win the first silverware of his professional career. He has been tipped to play for England one day.

Outspoken Surrey Manager, Chris Adams, isn’t shy about making big claims; he is adamant that his young outfit are going to be one of the greatest sides in Surrey’s history.
